Obakeng Balepilwe Kgomo was born in Hebron (Pretoria). Obakeng studied for his B. Juris and LLB degrees from university of the North West (formerly UNIBO) in 1994 and 1997 respectively and was admitted as an attorney of the high court of South Africa in June 1998.
Before his admission as an attorney, Obakeng served articles of clerkship with Herman Scholtz Attorneys in Mafikeng and later joined Gura Tlaletsi and Partners as a professional assistant from 1998 to January 2001.
During his studies at the University he served as a student assistant and graduate assistant in the department of Private and Mercantile Law and served as the vice-president of the Law Student Association. Obakeng is a member of the National Association of Democratic Lawyers (NADEL).
